Open exclusively to current and former members of the military, their families and invited guests, the Sunrise Vista Golf Course at Nellis Air Force Base is home to 36 holes of golf divided into two championship courses. The 18-hole Raptor/Thunderbird course, named after aircraft of historical significance, was designed by Jack Daray, Jr. and Stephen Halsey. The course stretches 3,450 yards from its back tees for a par of 36. The relatively flat course layout makes it agreeable to walk and players of all skill sets will enjoy the player-friendly course. Elements such as gently sloping greens, strategic water hazards and well-maintained fairways make the Raptor/Thunderbird course challenging to the casual player.
In addition to its two friendly courses, Sunrise Vista offers services including a complete pro shop stocking golf accessories, apparel and footwear, a casual dining area and an excellent practice facility. Players can fine tune their scoring skills on the three putting greens and bunker/chipping area. There’s also a driving range with eight target greens that range from 75 to 250 yards. And for more detailed instruction, the experienced and professional teaching staff is on hand for private or group sessions.
With an estimated 75,000 rounds of golf played annually, the courses at Sunrise Vista are certainly a military favorite.
